Success, at last for D Colts!

TAs 21.16 142
Cockburn Lakes 3.0 18

The D Colts boys we’re riding on a high after taking it right up to the ladder leaders in CBC the week before, but we still knew it would be a challenge against Cockburn at home. Coming off 8 straight losses there was a mood in the change room pre-game that the boys we’re ready to take this opportunity by the scruff of the neck and get the win that they had so thoroughly deserved in weeks gone by.

After a slow start by both sides in the first 10 minutes of the first quarter, the boys took control with 5 straight goals before quarter time. Ruckman turned key forward James Miocevich, was instrumental kicking two majors.

The second term was arguably our best quarter for the whole year kicking 9 goals to 1 in a sensational 20 minute burst. Co-captain Yianni Kakulas kicked one of the goals of the year at Billy Grayden streaming down the wing, breaking several tackles before slotting a classy goal from 40m out to extend the margin even further. Liam Engelbrecht was instrumental with his inside 50 entries whilst swingman Matt Hobbs showed his versatility at both ends of the ground as we went into the long break 13 goals the better.

At half time I really encouraged the boys to not get complacent with a full four quarter effort the end goal. After a slow start to the third term we steadied and finished the quarter strongly with four majors. We finished off the game strongly with another consistent showing in the last quarter before eventually running out 124 point winners.
The highlight of the game was our efficient ball use and transition from the back half. The improvement of guys such as Kelly Schneider who was accumulated the ball at will on the wing and the emergence of new forward targets in Darcy Whyte has made us a very balanced and competitive side.

We take a huge amount of confidence into our two final games with a strong belief in our game style.

Bring on Uni!!

Best: K. Schneider, Y Kakulas, L Engelbrecht, H Delaporte
Goals: J Miocevich 3, D Whyte 2, M Hobbs 2, Y Kakulas 2,
