The 2023 Season for the Trinity Aquinas girls was one that will never be forgotten. An Inaugural premiership for our women’s side in our second year, after just falling short of the ultimate prize last year.
Unlike 2022 where we had a large stock of girls, the Boomer girls showed resilience and determination the whole year with key players heading to Europe, and a number of season ending injuries.
Coming into the finals series in 2nd spot, the girls blew University out of the water in a prime time qualifier at Bill Grayden, winning 69-0. The team then headed up the highway to knock off top seed Secret Harbour by 20 points in a hard and heated battle to advance straight through to the Grand Final.
Grand Final day came around quickly, with the stage being set between 1st placed Secret Harbour, and ourselves. All of our battles with Secret Harbour during the year were physical and tough, with the two games in regular season being won by less than a kick. The mindset of the whole squad leading towards the grand final was special. A very close knit group, we knew our friendship, attitude and motivation would be an advantage over the opposition. A physical and close game from start to finish, with wet conditions and heavy hits, the girls were victorious by the closest of margins, 1 point.
An unbelievable feat winning a premiership in only their second year in the system, with many girls not having picked up a football this time two years ago. Always reliable Nadia Pisano came out on top, winning the best on ground medal for the Grand Final. A team effort also with every girl playing their role on and off the field to get the job done.
